The Mystical Power of Numbers

Whether you believe in the mystical powers of numbers or not, it’s hard to deny that countless people see patterns in recurring numerical sequences. It’s no surprise, then, that numerology – a 2,500-year-old practice that links numbers and personality traits – is still around today. In its modern form, numerology claims to divine occult wisdom about a person by using simple math and the inherent vibrations of each number.

Most of the ‘rules’ of numerology were established by Pythagoras and his followers, though there is no evidence that he invented the system. The Pythagoreans were, in fact, a sect of ancient Greek philosophers who believed that each number had a specific vibration and that every physical thing vibrated to a certain number as well. Later, a system was created to correlate letters of the alphabet to numbers and allow names to have hidden meanings.

A numerology chart typically determines a person’s Life Path number, Soul Purpose Number, and Destiny Number by using the numbers in their birthdate and full name. These numbers are then analyzed to reveal the qualities and challenges that they may face in their lifetime, as well as the traits that will help them overcome any obstacles.

The numbers 1 and 2 are often viewed as lucky by numerologists, but all numbers have positive and negative qualities. Numbers like 11 and 22 are known as Master Numbers because they don’t get reduced to a single digit and therefore offer the combined characteristics of both 1 and 2. The number 3 is often considered the “creative visionary” in numerology, while the number 5 is thought to be a sensuous freedom seeker who has trouble sitting still.
