The Basics of Numerology

Numerology is an alternative practice that uses numbers to predict personality traits, strengths and challenges. It is based on the belief that each number has its own energy vibration, and each person has certain numbers they will “mesh” with more closely than others.

For example, those born under the number 12 are often creative and self-expressive, evoking optimism, full cooperation, versatility and an ability to adapt to any situation. This is because the number 12 is derived from the number 3 and it carries many of the same core characteristics as that number.

Numbers are everywhere in our lives, from the date of your birth to the names you were given at birth and even your address. According to numerology, these numbers have a special meaning and hold the key to understanding yourself, your relationship with your family, friends and even your future.

The basics of numerology include calculating your Life Path Number (which is like your sun sign in astrology), Destiny Number, Karmic Number, and Soul Urge Number. Your Life Path Number is found by adding the digits of your date of birth, and your Destiny Number is calculated by combining the Active Number (first name), Hereditary Numbers (parents’ last names) and the Vowels of your birth name.

But while numerology has its believers, skeptics argue that only the actual numerical value of a number holds any significance. And despite the fact that you can find this information for free, it’s probably best to leave it to an experienced numerologist to get a more accurate reading.
