For thousands of years, people have observed patterns in recurring numbers and events. The Chaldeans of ancient Babylon used a form of this numerology to connect words and names to specific attributes. The Hebrews developed a similar practice called Gematria, which correlates letters of the alphabet with particular numbers. And the occultists of the Middle Ages believed that numbers are a language of God and have a mystical meaning.
In numerology, we determine someone’s life path number by adding up all the digits in their birth date (month, day, and year) and then reducing that sum to a single digit. For example, a person born Feb. 14, 1990 would get their life path number by adding 2 + 14 + 1990 = 2006. Then they’d add the digits in their full name, and so on, until they reached a single digit, like 8 for this person’s name. The last step is to reduce any double-digit numbers to their single-digit forms, like 11 or 22, which are master numbers.
These numbers have a lot of influence over us, and knowing ours can help us make the right choices for our lives. But, as with astrology, there’s no scientific proof that these numbers are meaningful or even accurate. Still, many find that it’s a fun way to interpret their personalities and the world around them.
